My Chemical Romance

New Jersey rock quintet, My Chemical Romance, first came to worldwide attention with their debut album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love in 2002. With a name inspired by author Irvine Walsh, the band started a loose-knit friendship in high school and stayed in contact after graduation, eventually reforming around new music. Comprising of singer Gerard Way, guitarist Ray Toro, bassist Mikey Way, guitarist Frank Iero and drummer Bob Bryar, they released their sophomore, platinum-selling album, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, in 2004. The album was an impressive leap forward for a group that was constantly on tour for 2 years, winning a fanatical following across North America and Europe. Now they are back with their latest album, The Black Parade, released on October 24th, 2006.

The title is the name of the quintet's alter ego on their new record, explains Gerard. "This was a really difficult album for us to make. And there was a certain point where it was so dark for us that it felt like we really needed to become much more than brothers - we needed to become a new band." The phrase also refers to the basic premise of the record - an epic, theatrical concept album about mortality. "I'd like to think that when you die, death comes for you however you want," Gerard says. "It's your strongest memory from childhood or adulthood. For the main character on this record, The Patient, his strongest memory is his father taking him to a parade when he was a child. So when death comes for him as he's dying tragically in a hospital, it comes in the form of a black parade."

No need to say more. Britney filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, from his infamous husband K-Fed!

What do I think? Well, I think this is just one of the major changes in Brit's life in preparation for her comeback. Despite the ccouple's incessant denials, their marriage still has been hounded with speculations of marital squabbles and domestic unrest since day 1 and this news just confirms everything.

MTV Game for Themed Week

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - MTV is going all videogames, all the time next week.

Dubbed Gamer's Week 2.0, videogame-themed programming will run next week on MTV's television and online platforms, including MTV, games.mtv.com, MTV2, mtvU, Xfire and GameTrailers, to coincide with the North American launches of Sony's PlayStation 3 on November 17 and Nintendo's Wii on November19.

There will be more than 40 hours of short and long form videogame programming throughout the week, which is aimed at the broad spectrum of gamers who drive the $25 billion global interactive entertainment industry.

Sally Frattini, MTV senior vp and executive in charge of production, said the network's partnerships with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo will include the airing of some of this content on their perspective gaming portals.

"Our audience is obsessed with videogames and it's at the top of the list of what they're looking for on all of our channels," said Frattini. "We've done a lot of short format programming for this week, as well as half-hour shows, and we're incorporating games into regular shows like 'Sucker Free' and TRL."'

All of the shows that air on the MTV channels will also be available on-demand, to accommodate the multi-tasking gaming audience that is used to choosing when it watches its entertainment and how. For the first time, more than 20 segments from the week will be available via MTV mobile for on-the-go gaming news and features. As part of the week, MTV will premiere a pilot for "The G-Hole," an original short form show that originated online and is jumping to broadcast as a half-hour show.

"Games are a permanent part of the pop culture in this world," said Frattini. "Our goal is to try to create some programming, whether it's on air or online, and to combine it with artists or celebrities to make it feel like MTV."

Lily Allen is the 21-year-old sensation from the U.K. who is gently rocking the music scene like a breath of fresh air.

When she was a young girl, Lily was a lonely girl. "I went to 13 different schools so never had time to make enduring friendships. Music became a lifeline to me."

Born in Hammersmith, Lily grew up fast. "I listened to punk, ska and reggae when I grew up, courtesy of my parents' record collections. We moved around London... Shepherds Bush, Bloomsbury, Islington... and I absorbed all the music around me. I got expelled from various schools and was sent to boarding school as they thought it would be a restraining influence, but I ran away to Glastonbury and other places when I was 14. I was into jungle and drum and bass. It was obvious I didn't like authority. I guess I knew from an early age that I could never do a job where I'd have to sit in an office all day long."

Lily finally left school at 15 when it became obvious her creative needs were not being met. "I always read a lot. It was frustrating moving schools so much because I always felt I couldn't articulate my feelings as much as I wanted to. Books and music helped me do that. I became obsessed by quite arcane subjects, like second world war evacuation stories and books about 18th century aristocracy. I started to feel like I could have a voice. But I wanted to write about my own world in an entertaining way. So I did."

Lily's incisive lyrical observations belie her years. "A lot of female artists, and male ones for that matter, are boring singers who don't say anything. Certainly not to my generation. With the kind of music I do you have to be direct and quite literal. I don't play an instrument, which really makes me focus on the vocal melody, and the lyrics are incredibly important to me. I don't want to be part of a scene... the whole idea of that makes me feel sick... and most of the music I listen to is by outsider figures, which is where I feel happiest."

No, no, we are not talking about how quickly Britney shed off her preganancy weight. We are talking about how the "Hollaback Girl" Gwen Stefani keeps up with her heavy schedule and being a good mom to her 6-month-old son at the same time.

Stefani, 37, was one hour late for her Much Music interview to promote her new album The Sweet Escape and had baby Kingston in tow. She apologized for being late and her lopsided chest. "I was feeding him...I'm like totally lopsided right now, because he only wanted to have one little bit."

But it seems like Stefani is having a ball of a time being a mom. "The transition of having the baby was, like, flawless. Like, no transition. He was there and then it was just natural. He cries and talks. He's got two little teeth. I think he definitely knows that I'm someone special and that I feed him. I'm the milk cow!"

Instead of "Hollaback Girl", maybe "Mooback Girl" will be more appropriate for Stefani now.

Rain

Jung Ji Hoon was born on June 25,1982. He uses his stage name Bi (pronounced "Bee",which means Rain in Korean) when he performs as a singer and dance,and his real name when he's an actor.

He has had a passion for dancing since he was in the sixth grade. As a teenager,he was part of the boy group Fanclub, Rain was a dancer for Korean stars Park Ji Yoon and Park Jin Young,who took Bi under his wing.

Rain made his debut as a solo artist in 2002 with the song, "Nappun Namja" ("Bad Guy"). His fisrt two albums did well in Korean and Rain was also making a name for himself as an actor in TV drama, Sangdoo Hayko Gaja (Sangdoo Let's Go To School) In 2004, he starred in Full House,a TV drama series that was aired in Southeast Asia,Taiwan and Japan. His performance in Full House has won him the Best Actor Award at the KBS Acting Awards and won him legions of fans in those countries.

Inevitably,his third album, It's Raining,made him a star in territories such as Singapore,Taiwan,Hong Kong,Japan,China,Indonesia and Thailand. Today,at the age of 24, Rain has become one of East Asia's biggest pop stars.

James Morrison

If one just listens to James Morrison without looking at him,one would probably imagine a veteran African-American artist in his 40s singing with a soulful bluesy vibe. Hence it comes as a surprise to discover that the voice behind the smashi hit, "You Give Me Something",belongs to a 21-year-old white Englishman who has just released his debut lbum,Undiscovered.

The talented singer-songwriter taught himself to sing and play guitar at the tender age of 15. However,it wasn't until his uncle taught him an old blues riff when he was 13 that things really started to fall in place for James. He channeled his troubled past into penning some heartfelt songs and carved out his own sound.

He co-wrote all the songs on his Undiscovered album. His new single, "The Piece Don't Fit Anymore" is currently enjoying heavy rotation on radio around the world and on MTV Asia!

After winning music fans over with his 2003 multi-platinum debut, Trouble, Senegalese singer Akon returns with more stories from his personal journey via his sophomore CD, Konvicted. If Trouble was Akon’s ode to redemption (before his music career took off he served time for car theft), Konvicted picks up at rebirth. His mission now is to reinvent himself through his salvation -- music. The son of accomplished jazz musician Mor Thiam, Akon was introduced to varied musical styles early on. “I grew-up listening to all kinds of music. Obviously I love soul songs, but I also like mixing in other types of music,” Akon confesses. “For every Stevie Wonder track I’ve listened to, there is another by Steely Dan that helped shape me as an artist.”

Although the hit single "Locked Up" earned him street credibility, the artist’s multifaceted sensibilities are evident on his second album. Akon produced and wrote all but one song on Konvicted. The album features tracks recorded with Eminem (the first single, “Smack That”), Snoop Dogg (“I Want To Love You”) and Styles P. (who laced Akon’s debut hit single, “Locked Up”). Konvicted balances streetwise swagger, studio originality and common sense. Like fine wine, Konvicted proves that Akon only gets better with time.

Norah Jones

Norah Jones, the talented singer, songwriter and pianist, who has won over the world with her signature style, unveils her new album, Not Too Late. Her third outing for Blue Note Records, the album is a 13-track gem that features, for the first time, Jones singing a full assortment of her own compositions that plumb the depths of emotion with subtle levity and probe the mind-set of living in a troubled world.

"Three or four years ago, I was telling people that the one thing I wanted to get better at was songwriting," says the New York-based artist who's a multi-Grammy winner and whose albums are multi-platinum selling. Jones notes that she didn't set out to write all the songs, but that during her last tour, she "got into a songwriting groove that continued when I got back home. I love to interpret other songwriters' music, but I don't always feel as close to them as my own songs. These songs are much more honest, closer to my gut; this record is much more personal."

Produced by Lee Alexander, longtime bassist in Jones' band, who also shares songwriting credit on many of the tracks, Not Too Late displays a self-assured maturity, with songs that range in tempo and style while also maintaining the fundamental signature of her heartfelt delivery. The 27-year-old Jones acknowledges that she's grown as a songwriter, noting that the songs from her first two albums were among the first she had ever written. "They're a bit elementary when I look back at them," she says. "These new songs probably have more of my personality because I think they are a little more complex. Some of these songs are dark and cynical, but there's also a sense of hope. That's why the album is named Not Too Late. I liked the positive message."

Not Too Late strikingly stands as the next step in the artistic evolution of Norah Jones. With it, she has defied the flash-in-the-pan fortune of so many of her chart peers, who are here today and gone tomorrow. Jones is here to stay, and Not Too Late is further proof of the greening of her career.

While walking across the stage to receive the MTV2 Award for “Sugar, We’re Going Down,” the only thing on Fall Out Boy bassist and lyricist Pete Wentz’s mind was “please don’t drop an f-bomb.” Shortly thereafter the band, originally from suburban Chicago, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best New Artist. But the accolades didn’t stop there. Fall Out Boy won 3 Teen Choice Awards, and the video for “Dance, Dance” won the MTV Video Music Awards for Viewer’s Choice, and was nominated for Best Group Video.

For all their success, the band members have stayed true to their roots; not in the sense that they haven’t changed, but in the sense that they’re making music they love to hear and aren’t changing to appease the tides of trend. Fame has never been the driving force behind the music for the band, and all the recent success hasn’t quite sunk in yet. “I don’t think of music as a career,” Wentz says, “until certain things jar it for you.” When pressed for an example, he cites the thousands of screaming fans who greet him when he gets on stage.

Self-described nerds, they’d still be working just as hard on their music whether they were playing for an audience of 5 thousand, or an audience of 5. “The more you try to please everybody, the less you end up pleasing anybody,” says Patrick Vaughn Stump, Fall Out Boy lead singer and guitarist. Stump, perhaps the least flappable band member save for vegan drummer Andy Hurley, becomes agitated when people take the reward of music more seriously than the art. “If you gave me 3 million dollars to spend,” Stump says, “I’d find 3 million dollars worth of musical equipment to buy.”

From the opening sounds of Good Charlotte’s fourth album, Good Morning Revival, -- which launches with an artful, innovative sound collage that slides into the irresistible “Misery” -- it’s evident that the band who’ve sold over nine million albums has revolutionized its sound for 2007. And by the time the optimistic parting shot “March On” rolls around, it’s evident that this is the vibrant, adventurous and unexpected rock album that has redefined the group.

Returning to work with producer Don Gilmore (Pearl Jam, Linkin Park, Avril Lavigne) -- who helmed Good Charlotte’s eponymous 2000 breakthrough debut -- was the decisive change that reinvigorated the band. After a pair of successful albums like 2002’s tremendously popular triple platinum The Young and the Hopeless and 2004’s subsequent million-selling follow-up The Chronicles of Life and Death (which were realized with producer Eric Valentine), GC singer Joel Madden says its modus operandi on Good Morning Revival was simply to “make a record that we loved and that felt good.”

In an effort to achieve that goal, Gilmore challenged Joel and his identical twin, Good Charlotte’s guitarist Benji Madden, to bring their A game. And he was highly critical. “We threw out 50 or 60 songs and pretty much started over,” Benji says. “Don was like, ‘I want to reinvent you guys. I want people to ask themselves, ‘Is that Good Charlotte?’”

“Don wanted a fresh, new us,” Joel explains. “And he was like, ‘If you guys are ready for that then I want to work with you. And we were like, ‘Dude, we are so ready for that, you have no idea.’ He kept pushing us and we’d keep bringing songs to him and he’d be like, ‘Nah. It’s not what I’m looking for. And then he was like, ‘you know what? I’m going to take you guys out of L.A. and you’re going to work without interruptions and then we’re going to get it.’”

“We wanted to love every track,” bassist Paul Thomas explains. “Our goal this time out was to make it an awesome listen straight through. No f**king filler, man.”
