Chapter 11
“Dad! Tell Jason to stop using my bra as a slingshot!” Ugh, personally I think brothers were sent from mars to not only irritate us but to humiliate us too. “Oh no”. Isn’t it amazing how those two words could mean so many things like, oh no, my heel broke just before the party of the year or oh no, my crush happened to step inside the door way of our hotel room just when an eraser had been slingshot right into his face with help of a doofus named Jason and my bra! Isn’t it amazing how so much anger could turn into so much humiliation in a blink of an eye?
Luckily, while Justin rubbed out his temporary blindness and Alex froze realizing what he did (it takes a bit of time for things to register in his brain), I jumped matrix style and grabbed my underwear from Jason’s hands and landed right on my butt, which hurt really bad by the way, but it was all worth it because Justin didn’t see what had shot the eraser at him and was too confused with what had just happened to realize why I was sitting on my butt in front of the toilet holding something behind my back. Lucky eh?
Some people say that luck comes in the form of karma, do good things and good things happen (I’ve been watching a lot of my name is Earl recently cause it’s the only thing that is in English and doesn’t have Big Bird or any purple dinosaurs in it). On the other hand, I haven’t lied since we came on this trip or even taken anything from Jason without his permission, yet.
‘Yayyy! I’m going to meet Alex! Yay!, squealed Jake at the top of his lungs, recently he had adopted a new habit of telling anyone who would listen that Justin was in lu-uurve with me. I ain’t gonna stop him from telling the truth, Justin, on the other hand, was one nerve away from hanging Jake upside down and using him as a punching bag.
“What’s he so happy about?” I asked not really that interested but purely for the sake of hearing Justin’s voice.
“Before we go to Queenstown, we will be making a small pit stop at my hometown, Wanaka, so Jason is excited ’cause now he will see his best friend, Alex.” Somehow Justin didn’t seem so happy. Wonder why?
Chapter 12
“How long has it been now?” Jake asked almost exploding with excitement.
“Well, since the last time you asked me, it has been exactly seven seconds, too long if you ask me.” You could practically see the sarcasm dripping from Justin’s mouth, but I couldn’t blame him cause Jake had been asking ‘how long has it been now’ ever since Mr. Blanc said they were one hour away from Wanaka.
“I don’t see why your so grumpy, you’re gonna see Nick, Jenny, Kevin, Joe again not to mention Alexis.” Jake argued back, I have to admit though that for some reason the way he made kissey faces when he said the last name made my a bit uneasy. I had no idea how uneasy I would be the next time I’d hear that name.
“Home sweet home; it even smells exactly the same.” Jake sighed as he took in a deep breath. Even Justin seemed happy. Wanaka was the picture perfect place to be brought up in; it was quaint and had that homey feeling about it.
“Did you tell your friends that you were coming?” I asked.
My answer was that they wanted to surprise their friends and since it was about three o’clock they were probably at home from school. If I could summarize what happened at Nick’s, Jenny’s, and Joe’s and Kevin’s houses it would go like this, “HOLY COW! Am I dreaming, yeah baby! After everyone got over the shock, we went to Jenny’s house first, Joe’s and Kevin’s next (they’re brothers) and then to nick’s last with everyone tagging along.
Jenny was a tomboy who could have passed off as a boy if not for her name, Kevin and Joe were the kind of guys who would probably own a skate shop when they grow up (kinda cute but not my type) and Nick was cute, a bit shy at first but really funny once he opened up. Justin introduced us like a real gentleman (Awww) and within a minute I felt like we had known each other for over a year. It was all going really well until I mentioned her name.
