now, isn't this film an assault to the mind. i never heard anything about David Lynch and his works before (i once thought that he's David Fincher, the one who did Fight Club) but i keep on seeing his name on almost every blog that i read and how these people say how awesome his films are, so i use my broadband to the fullest to download one movie from him to see it for myself. and i picked Lost Highway since it seems to be his most well known work. (OT: i didn't know that a torrent can download much faster than LimeWire :D)
anyway, there are two things that kept me from seeing this film until earlier this evening even though i already have it since wednesday:
- the trailer i watched on YouTube scare the hell out off me. the man with the pale face is SCARY
- there are explicit scenes on the film (i kinda did a research before i watched it) and as what i keep on ranting about films with sex on it, my mom don't aprrove any of it even though i keep on telling her it's done with purpose and not like some movie porn.
Lost Highway is about Fred Madison (played by Bill Pullman) and his deranged/surreal/crazy encounter on the first part of the film. he then gets a death sentence for supposedly killing his wife without his full knowledge. and then one night while he's in his cell, he literally change into another person, named Pete Dayton, a young mechanic. from here, it seems that the film is trying to convey that Fred had completely became to Pete, and is now living a whole new life. only later in the movie, conncetions between the two characters will be unraveled.
one thing i was expecting was Lost Highway will be anything like Donnie Darko. aside from both having a lead character with emotional problem, the two are completely different. oh, maybe also the fact that both film must be watched more than once to completely grasped the whole plot.
Lost Highway was slow. but since the core concept of movie was outside reality, i think it did good. and there are scenes that you'll completely feel that you are deranged. maybe Lynch did it on purpose. (i enjoyed those scenes. ;D)
i could say more but this is the first time i saw this movie and first of its kind. yes, i would definitely watch it again, because the sequencing of the movie was too confusing. if only it was 20mins shorter i could watch it again at this very moment. having to seat at an old computer chair for two hours is not good, mind you.
i won't rate this movie because i'm not like that. for me it's either nah, good, effing good, great, or effing great. you wont be seeing reviews too which are bad. i tend to pick movies that i know would be good for me to waste time with.
