I just made a trip to Singapore for the Air Show last weekend. It was all crazy--from the beginning. First, I started to plan this trip on Monday just 4 days before departure...I got the hotel--but not yet for the first night. I got a nice deal from Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific and SWISS but since Singapore A'lines offered more suitable and selection of times so I flew with SQ and left Bagkok on Friday--still--without a hotel for the first night! lucky me I am living in the 21st century, I made a reservation thru the internet--again at Singapore after I made like hundreds times in Thailand and there ware no rooms available due to the peak period. Finally, I got a reasonable price at Orchard Parade for the first night but it wasn't that easy I had to wait for couple hours during the transferring information from the agency website to the hotel data base. The second and third night were made at ease under Thai Airways' ROP mileage redemption, I paid S$70 for 2 nights at the Traders hotel--how nice was that?
Singapore was nice but hot, as usual. I took MRT to Pasir Ris and wait a free shuttle bus to the Air Show venue, first thing I saw was....damn it! the queue was like 1 km long at the MRT/bus intersection. It took like two hours and a half waiting on a bus. I saw the A380 show from the Pasir Ris about 5km away, I guess, so missed all the performances! And the exhibition was not that nice. I went on the public days, not on the invitation days so the exhibitors might not willing to present the products or services that much cause on public days, people were not going to buy the aircrafts or airport ground services, right?
A must place to go (at least for us) is HMV! I got myself "The Killers" T-shirt and also for my love friend--I'm sure he is going to love it! but again--it wasn't that easy! I went to HMV at the Orchard, first, and it was out of stock! damn it! The guy told me to go to the City hall brunch near Peninsula plaza but I was misunderstanding, I thought he told me to got to the Peninsula plaza--so I wasted another hour looking for HMV in the wrong place, but finally I asked a guy at the CD shop there and he told me the right direction. I got 2 "The Killers" T-shirts for $80, imported from the UK but made in Hondurus. I wonder how much the workers got from these T-shirts? 50cent? or less? I really don't support the unfair trade like this T-shirt company but since I am a really huge fan of The Killers so I did buy it and I am happy with it so this time is the exception :P
Also the rest of the trip, I've got to see Singapore in more details, casue the last time I visited here I didn't have enough time. I went to the Images of Singapore (which I came here before in 2004) and took my time to "feel Singapura" in the past. I went to little India, Malay Heritage Centre, Masjid and many museums -- most 10-20% off from the admission fee by using SIA boarding pass privilage--so be sure to keep it next time when you fly SQ.
