Yes, it's a good news for all of us in Indonesia!
Although 3G is not new in other countries (read this article on 3G in other countries), now it's up and running in Indonesia! At this point, only Telkomsel and XL is up, Indosat will be up soon.
Here's press release from XL:
XL Lulus ULO 3G di 6 kota (english: XL has passed 3G usability testing in 6 cities)
here's above entire news in English.
For Telkomsel:
Peluncuran layanan dunia 3G Telkomsel (in Indonesian only)
For GSM lovers, now there's a website for 3G in Asia and conferences about 3G!
Enjoy 3G! I hope it really lives its promise, for 384kbps.
Yes, it's true. This is bad. But before I continue, let's make some clear term definitions about this news.
First, CDMA. CDMA is a way to communicate wirelessly, much like TDMA on GSM. But CDMA operates differently. According to this article on Wikipedia:
Code division multiple access (CDMA) is a form of multiplexing (not a modulation scheme) and a method of multiple access that does not divide up the channel by time (as in TDMA), or frequency (as in FDMA), but instead encodes data with a special code associated with each channel and uses the constructive interference properties of the special codes to perform the multiplexing. CDMA also refers to digital cellular telephony systems that make use of this multiple access scheme, such as those pioneered by Qualcomm, and W-CDMA by the International Telecommunication Union or ITU.Now, this is the link to the article of Nokia's production stop:

This is soo bad. Why? Because now many CDMA cell-phone users will have one less choice, especially for general Nokia CDMA fans. But for me it's been known that one of the cause of this problem is the high license fee of CDMA 2000/1x charged by Qualcomm.
Even in Indonesia, CDMA phones are more expensive than GSM phones. Yes, there is about 65 to 70% Nokia CDMA market share in Indonesia, and this could be a worst nightmare for Nokia resellers. And this could bring a bad karma on big operators in Indonesia such as Telkom, Mobile8, and Esia since Nokia will be no longer available, and users can't be forced to buy other brands to make phone calls!
