The programs for our troops don't only come from the U.S. administration. There's a huge number of retired military support associations and programs that are constantly ready to lend a hand, provide free assistance and recognition to our troops. In addition, there are also several groups that help the spouses and family members of a sick or departed veteran. These associations provide monetary and emotional help and assistance on claiming benefits from the various branches of the military. Furthermore, they also have regional offices that the immediate spouses of the military can turn to at anytime. Most of them have special sites in the World Wide Web wherein families can gain access at anytime.

Aside from the various veterans benefits that are being offered to the soldiers by the US government, it has been truly a fantastic idea to allocate a specific day for our troops that will let them feel that they are important and appreciated. Thus, Veterans Day was formed. The Veterans Day is a special day being observed annually in United States to honor the service people of the armed forces for their unwavering service and big involvement in keeping the harmony and liberty in the country. This holiday is the right time to commemorate those who were killed in wartime and those who are presently serving the military. And because of the continuing support of the government and civilians, Veterans Day can be considered as one of the best veteran's benefits that can strengthen their spirit and moral.

The military benefits given by the United States Veterans Affairs department vary on their status in the service – (1) active duty, (2) reserve, (3) national guards, (4) veterans and (5) retirees. For active duty staff of the United States military, they are given with the following general benefits: (a) Basic Pay, (b) Death and Burial, (c) Dependent Care, (d) Deployment, (e) Health, (f) GI Bill and Insurance benefits.

Although the benefits of the active duty military don't have that huge difference from the benefits provided to other service personnel, active duty persons have still a lot to get. Other benefits that they should have are: Social Security, VA Loans, scholarship for the families, transition help and TRICARE. The American Veterans is the first World War II veterans organizations chartered by the Congress. On July 23, 1947, The Public 216 was signed and recognized by President Harry S. Truman. This association accepts associates that have been honorably released.

One of the primary concerns of AMVETS is for the welfare of the veterans such as support for the benefits of the retired armed service personnel. The programs that they support include the Veterans Affairs hospital systems and pensions. All military members who remain on active duty for 20 years or over are entitled with retired military benefits. Currently, there are three (3) non-disability retirement programs for the retiring service staff. These are the following: (1) Final Pay, (2) High-3 Year Average, and (3) REDUX or the Military Retirement Reform Act of 1986. Personnel have an option to decide what kind of retirement system is applicable to them.

1. Final Pay Retirement System – this system is applicable to staff of the armed forces who entered the military before September 8, 1980. 2. High-3 Year Average Retirement System - this program is applicable to staff who first joined the military after September 8, 1980, but before August 1, 1986. 3.
