Military Home Loan Benefit

Home loan benefit is one of the various veterans benefits that the Department of Veterans Affairs provides. However, not all service personnel are qualified for this benefit as they differ in service periods.

Service period is one basis to establish the eligibility of a military service staff for a VA home loan. For service during wartime, the military should have at least 90 days on active duty and have been released other than disreputable conditions. On the other hand, during the peace time, a service person should have a minimum of 181 days of continuous active duty and have been discharged other than disreputable conditions. Other service periods and position of the military may be subject for VA's endorsement and investigation.

Celebration of Veterans Day

November 11 is the day that most nations celebrate Veterans' Day. Some countries such as the United Kingdom (UK) call this day Armistice Day or Remembrance Day, signifying the end of World War I. In America, Veteran's Day is considered both a national and a state holiday. It was proclaimed and signed into law by former President, Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954 to commemorate and give recognition to the US military servicemen and women who served and sacrificed for the country.

Individuals have various ways of celebrating this special day for the servicemen and women. Every state holds various public affairs in remembering the soldiers such as parades, providing credit and awards.

VA Health Care Benefits

Health care benefits is one of the significant veterans benefits that a military can have. Just like other benefits, the VA health care has different programs that are specifically designed to meet the unique necessities of every service person in the military.

To become eligible for this benefit, a service person must be enrolled to a VA health care system. The eligibility and provided assistance will be based on numerous factors including the nature of veteran's discharge from the armed forces and length of service, income level and VA adjudicated disabilities. VA also has eight (8) Priority Groups under this program. Such priorities are created to enhance veterans' contentment and maintain the superiority of their services.

Various State Benefits for Veterans

The veterans benefits offered to the American veterans are different in each state. While every state has the same benefits like educational grants and scholarships, home loans and mark-offs on fees and taxes and special exemptions and pension programs, there are still some benefits that are not offered in other states.

Members of the American troops can have knowledge about their benefits by asking to the State Department of Veterans Affairs they belong to. When going to the respective offices, members can have clear details of what the state has to offer for them. They can also ask the National Association of Directors of State Veterans Affairs (NADSVA) that manages the list of 50 states and four territorial (common wealth) Veterans Affairs offices for more details.

Department of Veterans Affairs Programs for Homeless Veterans

Along with the many veterans benefits granted by the Department of Veterans Affairs is an assistance program for homeless veterans. The aim of this program is to support and give a better place to our homeless veterans as they deserve it.

According to the statistics, roughly 200,000 veterans don't have decent homes. The causes of this fact are scarcity and lack of support from their families and friends. The Veterans Affairs (VA) Department is the only federal branch that gives proactive support to homeless personnel who have served in the military. They have already granted more than four hundred (400) grants to public and non-profit organizations to help homeless veterans in 50 states as well as the District of Columbia.

Other programs for homeless veterans are as follows: - VA's Health Care for Homeless Veterans Program (HCHV) - VA's Domiciliary Care for Homeless Veterans (DCHV) Program - Veterans Benefits Assistance at VA Regional Offices - Acquired Property Sales for Homeless Providers Program - Readjustment Counseling Service's Vet Centers
