CURRENT SONG: DAHIL SA'YO (SA HIMIG NG AKING GITARA) by HALE, FROM THEIR SOPHOMRE ALBUM, "TWILIGHT."
I found this article very informative and entertaining, too. Way to go, my Swiss Miss. Go for the crown!!! :) Jeez, I'm such a (big) fan. Haha..
The male models who will serve as ballboys – and frivolous talking points – at the WTA year-end championship in Madrid were decided a while ago. At the well-publicized auditions in May, Maria Sharapova helped handpick a few, testing which ones were quick on their feet by asking them questions like, "who's your favorite tennis player?"
A slow-witted candidate who gave someone else's name was quickly turfed.
But who those ballboys will be carrying for and picking up after isn't yet known – to be guaranteed a berth at the year-end championships, a player must be among the top eight finishers in the WTA's points race, which ends November 5.
Here are the current top 10 in the race to Madrid and the current top 10 in the world rankings:
WTA Race to Madrid WTA Rankings 1 J. HENIN-HARDENNE 1 A. MAURESMO 2 A. MAURESMO 2 J. HENIN-HARDENNE 3 M. SHARAPOVA 3 M. SHARAPOVA 4 S. KUZNETSOVA 4 S. KUZNETSOVA 5 K. CLIJSTERS 5 K. CLIJSTERS 6 M. HINGIS 6 E. DEMENTIEVA 7 E. DEMENTIEVA 7 N. PETROVA 8 N. PETROVA 8 M. HINGIS 9 P. SCHNYDER 9 P. SCHNYDER 10 D. SAFINA 10 N. VAIDISOVA
Quite a few differences. Well, that’s because the rankings measure results from the past 52 weeks and the race measures results only from the beginning of this year, right? Right – but not entirely right. There’s another difference – in the rankings, players count only their best 17 tournament results; in the race, they can count them all.
yellow guys!!! just droppin' by. :) hope everyone is alive and still kicking.
thought for the day: always keep your eyes on the price. :)
An hour with ... Ely Buendia :)
last night, we did a photo shoot for 'pinoy' featuring local rock icon, ely buendia. it was fun not only because this happens once in a blue moon, but also because hello! 'in front of you is no less than mr. ely buendia himself.' and you're talking to him. and yet, you think this can't be happening, but it is already.' and if i may add, i got myself an autograph from this guy and a picture with him, too. :)
anyway, during the interview, mr. buendia was very cooperative. he even joked sometime showing only how already comfortable he was with our presence. so there!!!!
right now, i'm preparing something, because it's my turn on thursday. will be having a photo shoot for BANDA mag with one of my fave local bands --- the band behind the hit songs "Broken Sonnet," "The Day You Said Goodnight," "Kahit Pa," "Kung Wala Ka," "Toll Gate," "Blue Sky," and yup, that new song called "Waltz."
now, can you guess what band i'm referring to? :) just kidding!!! be safe everyone and enjoy the rest of the day!!!
CURRENT MOOD:
artistic (naks!)
Well done, my Swiss Miss!!! =)
KOLKATA, India - After surviving some battles during the week, one of the world's best took it up a notch over the weekend in Kolkata. Martina Hingis silenced a rowdy Indian crowd in the semifinals with a 61 60 demolition of national heroine Sania Mirza, then Sunday blitzed unheralded Russian Olga Poutchkova, 60 64, for the Tier III title.
After a string of upsets early in the week on the bottom half of the draw, it was the unseeded, 85th-ranked Poutchkova who emerged as Hingis' final opponent. Contesting just her fifth Sony Ericsson WTA Tour-level main draw, the 18-year-old was given an opportunity to play one of her idols in her career-first final, which she commented on before the championship bout.
"It's amazing to me," Poutchkova said. "I used to watch her in Grand Slam finals when I was 12 and now I'm going to play her. We'll just have to see how it goes!"
But Hingis held tightly to her top billing Sunday evening, easing through the first set and overcoming a spirited challenge from her opponent in the second, rallying back from a 3-1 deficit en route to capturing her second title of the season.
"I played very well; the first set was almost scary," Hingis stated. "When you play a set like that, you can lose concentration. In the second she started playing my forehand and I was surprised, but I started to adjust. She managed to get to 3-1 before I got my concentration back. I stepped up when I had to.
"She's a great young player."
"It was my very first final and it was against Martina Hingis," Poutchkova said afterwards. "I was a little bit nervous, but I feel good about the experience. In the second set she gave me some chances, then she took them away!"
how's everyone?! i hope 'ya all are doing fine. it is fine today. :) anyway, i'll be out any minute now. just relaxing a bit... the reason? i need to attend the press launch of hale's sophomore effort called 'twilight' at universal tower, quezon city (emi philippines). so there!. i'll see 'ya all tomorrow... be safe!!!

UPDATE! (9-22-06) We attended the round table interview with the boys of Hale yesterday. And oh, we already got a glimpse of the band's newest video for the song, "Waltz." And it was so "ma-drama." Acting-wise, the guys gave it their all. But I think, their best (performance) is yet to come. :) By the way, Isabelle Diaz (the beautiful daughter of Ms. Gloria Diaz), is the leading lady (yup) of Champ in the video. :)
This is an entertaining article, especially for someone who is fascinated about the on-going rivalry between tennis stars Federer and Nadal. :)
At the acme of tennis is a paradox. Roger Federer is, by a wide margin, the world's No. 1 ranking male tennis player. Moreover, he is at the height of his powers, maybe even improving, and considered by many to be the best of all time! Yet, he is also in danger of being overtaken by the No. 2 ranked Rafael Nadal, against whom his record is currently 2-6.
Of equal intrigue, Spanish upstart Nadal, while unsurprisingly superior on clay (4-0 vs. the Swiss), captured one of two tie-break sets when the two met in July's Wimbledon final on the grass that so clearly favors the game of the four-times running champion.
One would imagine that the greatest player of all time should be able to perch comfortably atop the tennis ladder, at least until his skills begin to evidence some slight signs of decay. But Nadal is hot on his heels, way ahead on clay, slightly ahead on hard courts, and behind only on grass. Many hoped the looming question, "Will Nadal overtake Federer as the world's dominant player?" might be answered on the neutral hard courts of Flushing Meadows. (The speed of play and bounce are generally considered to favor neither one type of play nor the other as do clay and grass.)

However, this year, thanks to the inspired play of Russia's Mikhail Youzhny and his 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-1 quarterfinal upset of Nadal, no such Open drama would take place. With Nadal not even making it out of his quarter of the draw, Federer again dominated the field. However, the primary question of why Federer has so much difficulty beating Nadal when he can so easily dominate everyone else is still worth considering.
STAGES recently got the nod of Disney Theatrical
Productions and Music Theatre International (MTI) to mount
the newly adapted stage musical based on Disney Channel’s
hit original movie “High School Musical” in the Philippines.
Auditions will be held in November.
STAGES mounts “High School Musical” as a fitting follow-up
to its successful staging of another youth musical,
“Footloose,” late last year, which starred RnB Prince Jay-R
and Myx VJ Iya Villania.
Since Emmy-winning “High School Musical” premiered on
Disney Channel U.S. last January, it has been televised 13
times and was seen by over 37 million viewers. Its maiden
telecast alone set record-breaking ratings for Disney Channel.
The TV movie has since established ratings records in
Australia and South East Asia. In the Philippines, “High
School Musical” ranked no. 1 in its timeslot beating all other
kid TV channels during its premiere telecast.
Moreover, the TV movie’s soundtrack is the top-selling album
of the year to date in the U.S., selling over 2.7 million copies.
Its DVD release has sold over 2.3 million copies since May,
making “High School Musical” the best-selling TV movie on
DVD of all time. A junior novel based on the Disney movie
landed on no. 1 spot in the New York Times’ bestseller list
(children’s paperbacks). Music sheets for guitar, piano and
vocals are also selling like hotcakes.
“High School Musical” follows the sugar-sweet story of popular
high school basketball star Troy Bolton and timid, math genius
Gabriella Montez who discover that they share a secret
passion for singing, and must learn to break free from their
cliques’ typical expectations in order for the two to fulfill their
dreams.
Both TV movie and stage versions of “High School Musical”
boast of catchy “break into song” production numbers, which
include “Start of Something New,” “Get’cha Head in the
Game,” “What I’ve Been Looking For,” “Stick to the Status
Quo,” “When There Was Me and You,” “Bop to the Top,” and
“We’re All in This Together.” The soaring duet and U.S.
Billboard Top 4 hit, “Breaking Free,” two new songs, and a
“High School Musical” Megamix complete the song list in the
adapted full stage version.
