Okay, I promised you that I'll have Part 2 of Honor Killings in Pakistan right? Well, I changed my mind. You see, I'm tired right now and the reason why is that I just finished my Physics exam (so exhausting). I'm supposed to be studying for values ed. with all the Measure your life by Obedience and whatnot.
I'm practically in the middle of a problem right now (can't tell you what), but I pray that God will help me somehow. For now, Ill just keep my fingers crossed to anything that will happen.
P.S. Sorry for the very short entry.
What I am going to type right now is entirely true and I believe and hope that people who are going to read this will learn or at least know something about it. My topic of today and for the rest of the week or month before I post another blog is about HONOR KILLINGS OF WOMEN IN PAKISTAN.
What is Honor Killing?
It is the killing of a female, and sometimes her love-interests and other associates ,
for supposed sexual or marital offenses, typically by her own
relatives, with the justification being that the "offense" has brought "dishonor" to the family. This practice is especially strongly condemned by many Western cultures for being a double standard and sexist,
because males will not be killed for such an "offense"; i.e. if a man
rapes a woman, it is the woman who "brings dishonor" to her family and
not the rapist.
In societies and cultures where it occurs, honor killing is often regarded as a private matter for the affected family alone; rarely do non-family members or the courts become involved or prosecute the perpetrators. The United Nations Population Fund estimates that the annual worldwide total of honor killing victims may be as high as 5, 000 women.
In Pakistan, men who killed their wife/wives out of inheritance, money or etc., use this("Honor Killing") as an excuse to escape the authorities. In a country where men have more rights than women, it is very difficult for women to claim justice.
Why the killing?
The killing of people for sexual crimes has been known since the times of Ancient Babylon (1700 BCE). The Codes of Hammurabi and Assura (some of the earliest sets of laws discovered), focus on the perception that a woman’s virginity belongs to her family. In Peru from 1200 BCE - 1532 CE, alleged adulterers were punished by having their hands and feet tied to a wall and being left to starve to death. A man was allowed to kill his wife if he caught or suspected her of having an extra-marital affair, while if a woman caught or suspected her husband of doing the same thing and killed him, she was given the death penalty.

As I sat on my couch, reading "Ever After, Diana and the Life she Led", by Anne Edwards, I couldn't help but think about the lonliness she must've suffered, the tears and her battle against bulimia. I simply adore her. She made an everlasting picture in my mind, that I hope I will never forget. I admire her not because of her beauty, wealth or sense of style but because of the love she gave to the people even though she suffered to a great degree. Now, even though she may be a distant memory, I salute her. It is my greatest regret that I was too young to appreciate what she did for the world and it is only now that I come to appreciate it.
